The Trinamul-led state government will showcase its successes of the past 11 years from May 6 to 20 to celebrate one year in power in its third tenure in Bengal.

“A statewide exhibition will be held for two weeks starting May 6. The main theme of the exhibition will be the success stories since Trinamul came to power in 2011,” said a senior government official.

Senior government officials pointed out that the biggest exhibition will be held in Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan (erstwhile Milan Mela) in Calcutta.Similar exhibitions will be held simultaneously in the district headquarters, too.

“All departments have been asked to showcase their achievements through charts, graphics and photographs. The departments are busy gathering information,” said a source.

Senior government officials said that the timing of the exhibition is significant.

The Trinamul-led state government had organised similar exhibitions in May 2012 and May 2013 to celebrate the completion of one year and two years in power. But since then, no such programme was held on a large scale. “This year’s exhibition, which will be held in a grand style, is being deemed significant as the state government is facing some questions in the backdrop of the Bogtui (carnage) and Hanskhali (rape-death) incidents,” said a bureaucrat.

A minister said that they would try to reach out to people through the exhibitions.

“Opposition parties, such as the BJP, are trying to mislead people based on some stray incidents. We want people to know what the state government has done for them in the past 11 years by introducing schemes such as Lakshmir Bhandar, Swasthya Sathi, Khadya Sathi, Joy Johar and Joy Bangla,” said the minister.
