Sources said Mollah was attacked by goons when he sought clarification from a contractor about the poor quality of a road construction project at Purba Radhanagar.

After an altercation, the Trinamul leader was attacked with iron rods allegedly by miscreants led by Bakibur Molla, a Trinamul activist. Mollah was rushed to Gosaba hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

This is the third murder of a Trinamul leader in the past fortnight in the district.

Gosaba's Trinamul MLA Subrata Mondal said: "I heard he had a tiff with Bakibur over poor road work. I have told police to take stringent action."
