Kabita Barman, the outgoing sabhadhipati of the Trinamul-run North Dinajpur Zilla Parishad, and schoolteacher, has been named in the list of 907 candidates published by the West Bengal School Service Commission on Wednesday.

On July 25, the apex court asked the commission to come up with a list of candidates in whose cases the CBI has reportedly detected manipulation of marks.

All these candidates appeared in the recruitment exam conducted by the commission in 2016 to appoint teachers in higher secondary schools across the state. They got their jobs in 2018.

As the issue has come to light, the Opposition in North Dinajpur trained guns at Trinamul for corruption over the recruitment of teachers.

“This is yet another blatant instance of nepotism. Kabita Barman was provided a teacher’s job in a high school by her party leaders in a corrupt manner. Like many others, she submitted a blank OMR sheet in the exam and got the job,” said Tushar Guha, a general secretary of Congress in the district.

Kabita, sources said, joined as a Bengali teacher at Balijol High School that is in the Itahar block of the district in September 2018. Her name is in serial number 300 in the list of 907 candidates. She is 41 years old now.

“I don’t know why my name is there on the list. I appeared in the exam and went through all the other formalities of the recruitment process. There has been no anomaly in my recruitment. I am consulting lawyers. If required, will approach the court,” the sabhadhipati said.

Prafulla, her husband, said: “We suspect that my wife has been a victim of a conspiracy. She was a good student and deserved the job.”

District Trinamul leaders said they had spoken with Kabita.

“She has categorically said she got recruited in a proper manner. We are checking out the veracity of the allegations,” Kanaialal Agarwala, the district Trinamul president, said.
