The Trinamul Congress leadership on Thursday ordered all district presidents of the party to initiate immediate action if complaints of graft and other irregularities were lodged against local functionaries in relief and rehabilitation measures for Covid-19 or Cyclone Amphan.
At a virtual meeting convened by Trinamul’s youth wing chief Abhishek Banerjee, all district unit presidents were told to waste no time in issuing showcause notices to leaders and workers accused of corruption.
“After the showcause, they will be given 48 hours to respond. If the district president is not satisfied with the response, the complaints are to be forwarded to the disciplinary committee of the party’s high command, which will act promptly,” said a source.
The district presidents were also given five issues to take on the BJP and its propaganda machinery with at the grassroots. The five issues, according to sources present at the session, are: relentless surge in fuel prices, unrestricted inflation, exclusion of Bengal from the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan, refusal of the Centre to transfer Rs 10,000 directly to the bank accounts of each migrant worker and the Union government’s non-payment of Rs 53,000 crore in dues to Bengal even during the current crisis.
“The districts leadership will have to go to town against the BJP and the Centre over these five points over the next few weeks. They are supposed to expose the real face of the BJP,” said a source.
