Biswajit Mandal, 23, along with pillion riders Subha Das, 21, and Vicky Sarkar, 22, were riding a motorcycle that collided with a pick-up van at the crossing of Hazra Road and Garcha First Lane around 3am.

Police said they were flung off the two-wheeler.

The three were from Anandapur, the police said.

“None of them were wearing helmets. After scanning CCTV footage of the area we found that the pick-up van was moving in the right direction following the traffic signal. The bike rammed into the van,” said an officer of Gariahat police station.

They were taken to SSKM Hospital where Mandal was declared dead. Das died later in the day. Sarkar was discharged after treatment.

The other accident at the crossing of St George’s Gate Road and Clyde Row took place around 1.15am.

Raj Das, 28, and pillion rider Goutam Kaira, 26, rammed into the median divider after Das lost control of the vehicle, the police said.

The residents of Beltala Road were taken to SSKM Hospital where Das was declared dead. Kaira was discharged after treatment.

They were wearing helmets, the police said.
