Bir Bahadur Thapa, the principal of Ali Faisal International School which is in Goagaon, a locality under Goalpokhar police station of the district, said that while they were making roll call of the students on Thursday evening, they realised that three students were missing.

“We spoke with their batchmates and learned that the trio were keen to watch the cricket match in Calcutta on November 5. All three of them are avid cricket fans and we suspect that they fled the campus and have headed for Calcutta to watch the match,” said Thapa.

As the students — two of whom are in third standard and from Chakulia of the same district while the third is in fifth standard and is from Goalpokhar — could not be traced in the campus, Thapa formed teams of teachers who headed for Dalkhola and Kishanganj railway stations.

“We also informed their parents and our teams went to the railway stations. They searched the trains bound for Calcutta till late night but couldn’t find the trio.... It has been found that they climbed the boundary wall at the back of the school and escaped. We will intensify surveillance across the area to avoid such incidents,” the principal added.
