Their families have filed missing diaries at Englishbazar police station.

Sources said two girls are school students and the third studies in a college. They went missing from Paharpur, a village on the outskirts of Malda town, on December 11.

“They left home for their school and college, respectively, last Monday. As they did not return till late evening, we started searching for them. When we couldn’t trace them, we informed the police. All of us are very worried over their safety,” said the father of one of the missing girls on Sunday.

On December 14, the parents of the schoolboy in Malda town informed the police that their son was missing.

“My son, a Class IX student, went out three days back but has not returned so far,” said his father on Sunday. “His cell phone is switched off. Our relatives and his friends have no inkling about his whereabouts. We hope the police find him,” said his father.

The BJP has questioned the law and order in Malda and the role of the police.

“Four youngsters have gone missing in a week and the police couldn’t find even one. This proves that minors and youngsters are not safe in the state. It is alarming,” said Amlan Bhaduri, general secretary of the BJP’s South Malda (organisational) district.

Dulal Sarkar, a district vice-president of Trinamul, countered Bhaduri.

“The police are trying hard to find them. The parents should have faith in the police. BJP leaders are simply playing politics over the issue,” said Sarkar.

Senior police officers said investigations were on.

“Our officers are working on leads. We are putting every effort to trace them,” said an officer.
