The third International Tea Day was celebrated across the world on Saturday.

In 2019, the UN General Assembly had marked May 21 as the International Day for Tea to promote production and consumption of the beverage.

In Darjeeling town, Golden Tips, a well-known tea brand, served freshly plucked second-flush Darjeeling Tea to locals and tourists at both its boutiques, located in Chowrasta.

The Tea Board of India had stressed on celebrating the day. The board had asked tea garden owners to organise special plucking in different estates on Saturday. Participating gardens plucked green tea leaves of the highest quality, that is, two leaves and a bud.

A special auction of these teas will be organised at auction centres across the country in June, sources in the board said.
