Ranjit Chakraborty, 7.56pm — “Kolkata Metro Railway running on mercy of God. Indian Railway gradually suffering from multi organ failure.”

Arpita Saha, 8.12pm — “...the Metro administration is being blamed for the mishap! Are they (guard and driver) really responsible for what happened today? When my friend Suvra Saha and I were returning from Rabindra Sadan on the Metro a couple of days ago, we noticed that a few unruly people were trying to open the door by force and get into an overcrowded Metro. The security guard was blowing the whistle but they did not seem to be affected. We therefore cannot accept the suspension of the driver and the guard today. Instead of blaming the Metro administration, the passengers should have some awareness of what they are doing, or mishaps like these will keep happening.”

Arpan Roy, 8.43pm — “It is entirely the administration’s fault. You cannot blame passengers if the sensors don’t work.”

Avijit Paul, 8.53pm — “The Metro involved in the accident was just ahead of our Metro. A young person lost his life because of the callousness of railways. The man’s arm was stuck inside and his body hanging outside. If the doors do not close, the sensor detect that, why didn’t that happen today? What were the CRPF personnel doing? How could they not notice a person hanging from a compartment? This is enough. We never hear of such incidents in other states. Why is India’s first Metro being treated like this? Is it because it is Bengal? We want an answer @government of India.”

Apurba Saha, 8.47pm — “I witnessed the Park Street metro accident on July 13. I saw death from a close distance today. I was returning on the new AC rake in the evening. The train arrived at Park Street station and I saw a person’s hand getting stuck in between the doors in front of me. The doors closed, the Metro took off and the person started running with the Metro. Such a tragic sight.”

Pralay Goswami Tirtho, 9pm — “This is why we need privatisation. Irresponsible act by railway employees.”

Suman Dey, 9.23pm — “Kolkata Metro is now becoming life threatening. Indian Railways has no focus on Kolkata Metro. Just because political reason.”

Rishiraj Sengupta, 9.30pm — “Being an almost regular commuter on the Metro, I condemn the incident that happened just a few hours back. How could the motorman at the back give green signal to the driver to depart? How could the motorman avoid looking through the window for obstructions, in any, near the sliding doors? How could the Railway Protection Force personnel not notice that a man was stuck at the sliding door...?”
