The West Bengal College and University Teachers’ Association (WBCUTA) has called a ceasework on November 19 to demand that the pay hike announced by the chief minister on Tuesday be implemented from January 2016, instead of January 2020.

The teachers’ associations of Jadavpur and Calcutta universities have supported the call by the WBCUTA, which is the largest body of college and university teachers.

Teachers were expecting that the hike would come into effect from January 1, 2016, when the human resource development ministry had notified that the recommendations would be implemented.
