The Bengal government has directed the agency that had constructed the overhead water reservoir that collapsed on January 22 in Bankura’s Saranga to rebuild it at its own expense based on a design prepared by engineers of the public health engineering department.

Sources said the directive to rebuild the tank was part of the punishment handed out to the Calcutta-based agency after a three-member inquiry team submitted its report to PHE minister Soumen Mahapatra on Monday.
