Suvendu Adhikari’s aide case handed over to CBI

Pal had moved a petition seeking quashing of proceedings drawn against him by Haldia police

Justice Rajasekhar Mantha of Calcutta High Court on Monday asked Haldia police to hand over the probe into the allegation that BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s aide Rajib Pal collected money from Haldiatruck owners to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Pal had moved a petition seeking quashing of proceedings drawn against him by Haldia police. His lawyer alleged his client had been falsely implicated in the case filed with apolitical motive.

CCTV for Suvendu

Justice Mantha of high court on Monday asked the state police administration to install CCTV cameras in the vicinity of Suvendu Adhikari's Calcutta and Contai homes and places where he would go for public meetings according to his choice and that of the police.

Suvendu had in a petition alleged that the state government had failed to provide him the security he demanded.

Appointments nixed

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the high court on Monday dismissed the appointments of six maths teachers of Classes IX and X in schools of Murshidabad for allegedly securing jobs illegally. The judge held that the district inspector of schools, Murshidabad, had illegally helped them, and summoned the latter in court on Thursday. The judge directed the education department to realise the sum spent on paying the six for the last two years from the salaries of its employees and others involved in the irregularity.

Abhijit case

Biswajit Sarkar, brother of Abhijit Sarkar, the BJP supporter of central Calcutta who was murdered allegedly by Trinamul goons during the state Assembly elections in May last year, moved a petition before the high court alleging that the CBI was not paying enough interest in arresting the accused. The case will be heard on March 1.
