Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, on Friday asked BJP workers to start a door-to-door campaign to apprise people of the alleged betrayal by Alipurduar MLA Suman Kanjilal who had left the saffron camp and joined the Trinamul Congress.

Adhikari took part in a BJP march here and delivered a speech at a public meeting thereafter at the ground of Nabin Sangha on Friday. He instructed leaders of BJP booth committees in the Alipurduar Assembly constituency to pay door-to-door visits.

“They will tell people how the MLA has betrayed them and will assure them that our party is with them,” said Adhikari.

The leader of the Opposition said he would soon be here again and would hold an indoor meeting with BJP functionaries to draw up plans for panchayat elections. “Once the Madhyamik exams are over, we will take up a series of political activities. Rallies will be organised across the district. Protests will be held against the administration that is acting at the behest of Trinamul,” he added.

At the public meeting, Adhikari remained silent on Trinamul’s demand that the BJP clarify its stand on the demand for the division of Bengal. Kanjilal said confusion caused by consistent calls for statehood by some BJP leaders had “disappointed” him.
