BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Monday took to Twitter to express his objection to the appointment of Virendra as the chief information commissioner of the state.

"As a Member of the Committee, making recommendations for the appointment to the post of State Chief Information Commissioner, I raised objection as information regarding filling of the vacant post wasn't well circulated. Yet Hon'ble Governor is going ahead with the appointment," Adhikari wrote sharing images of the March 14 notification from the state home department appointing Virendra to this post.

Alongside, he also shared images of his correspondence with the home secretary B.P. Gopalika and the governor C.V. Ananda Bose where he had registered his reservations over the appointment.

The BJP had been opposed to the possibility of Virendra's appointment as the state's CIC. The BJP had accused the former police officer of bias during the 2021 Assembly election.

"The selected person was the former DG of WB Police, who was removed from his position by the Election Commission ahead of the 2021 Assembly Elections & was barred from holding any election related post as he was inclined towards the ruling party. This appointment is unfortunate," he wrote in a following tweet.

Later at a public rally held at Khejuri in East Midnapore, Adhikari debunked chief minister Mamata Banerjee for spewing lies against the BJP.

He said the people would give a befitting reply to Mamata and named four Lok Sabha seats that the BJP would "definitely" win in Bengal in the 2024 polls.

"I'll show you (Mamata Banerjee) the game during the Lok Sabha polls. In the Tamluk seat, the BJP is ahead in terms of the Assembly polls. In Contai, the BJP is ahead by 50,000 votes. I will take Arambagh, and Ghatal and win Tamluk by 1.5 lakh votes and Contai by more than three lakhs," Adhikari said while addressing the rally.

While the rally was an answer to Mamata's rally at the same village on April 3, BJP leaders in private decried Adhikari's habit of making predictions "way too early".
