One person was killed and nine were injured when an SUV and a truck collided near Tarkhola in Kalimpong district on Monday.

Police sources said the SUV was going to Gangtok and the truck was coming from the opposite direction. The collision occurred on NH10 at Tarkhola, around 80km from here.

The deceased was Subhash Pradhan, 38, a resident of Ratopani in west Sikkim. Pradhan was travelling in the SUV.

The injured passengers have been admitted to a hospital in Rangpo, sources said. Police have seized the SUV and the truck.

Two die

Two persons were killed and another injured when a bike moving at high speed hit a pedestrian and rammed into the road divider at Dehashree More in Raiganj town on Sunday night.

The pedestrian as well as the two on the bike were taken to Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital where doctors pronounced two of them dead.

The deceased were Abhijit Sarkar, 35, a resident of Rabindrapally, and Arup Kumar Kundu, 37, who is from Bandar in town. The third person is under treatment
in a critical condition, said sources.
