Sources said Nisith Kumar Dohari, the deceased, who was a resident of Chhattisgarh, was on duty at Dhukurjhari outpost of BSF on the India-Bangladesh border in Anantapur under Kaliaganj block of North Dinajpur, since Saturday evening.

On Sunday early morning, some other jawans posted in the area heard gunshots. As they rushed to the spot, they found Dohari lying dead.

They informed senior BSF officials and the police who reached the spot.

Police have started probing the case and are waiting for the post-mortem report. The BSF is also conducting an inquiry into the incident.

Wife killer arrested

The body of a 42-year-old woman, who was missing since January 26, was exhumed from a forest area in Lataguri of Jalpaiguri district on Sunday, and her husband arrested for her murder.

Police sources said when Sanicharia Oraon went missing, her family members filed a complaint at Kranti police outpost.

As police started investigating the case, they spoke with Mithun, the victim’s husband, a daily wage earner.

During interrogation, Mithun admitted to an altercation with his wife which made him kill her.

“Mithun then carried her body and buried it in a forest area. Today (Sunday), he took us to the spot and the woman’s body was exhumed. He was arrested,” said a police officer.
