On Monday morning, the civil defence personnel traced out Naskar’s body, a resident of Usthi, from a deserted beach in Frasergnj.

Police sources said a teacher from Uttar Kusum village of Usthi, who runs a private coaching centre, took a group of students to Bakkhali for an excursion.

In the afternoon, the pupils went to the sea beach when the Class V student went missing.

A Class VIII student, an accompanying member of the team said: “Saqib swept away due to sudden tidal wave....it was strong enough for us to rescue him.”

The police have detained the teacher for interrogation.

“The boy drowned apparently due to negligence of the teacher. There was nobody to manage the students,” a police officer said.
