Activists of Left outfits block rail tracks in Burdwan in support of nationwide strike on Monday called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha against the three farm laws of the Centre.

The strike, mainly supported by the Left and its mass outfits, and the Congress, evoked mixed reactions in Bengal. Bandh supporters blocked tracks at various places including Jadavpur, Birbhum and Burdwan. They also blocked state and national highways at various places. Most private buses did not roll out in districts. Drivers of some government buses wore helmets for safety. The strike had impact in East and West Burdwan and parts of Haldia industrial belt. However, many retail shops were open in view of the festive season.

In Durgapur, CPM leader Pankaj Roy Sarkar was accused of slapping a person for questioning the strike. Sarkar said he objected to the use of abusive language for strikers.
