The vice-chairperson of the Sonarpur-Rajpur Municipality has been removed from her post over allegations that she had taken cuts for mutation of buildings, issuing trade licences and assessing property tax.
Pallab Das, the chairman of the municipality, on Friday issued a revised list of councillors who will look into various services offered by the municipal body — providing drinking water and electricity; garbage disposal; public health; and sports.
The list of councillors does not have vice-chairperson Santa Sarkar’s name.
Building plans, which she used to oversee, is now with Das.
There is no mention of trade licence and property-tax assessment, though.
The revised list has the names of five councillors barring Sarkar, believed to be close to Sovan Chatterjee, the former mayor of Calcutta and the erstwhile Trinamul president of South 24-Parganas.
The list doesn’t have any mention of Sarkar as the municipality’s vice-chairman.
“Primarily all of us are councillors of the municipality. The choice of councillors for various posts in this municipality is in keeping with the party’s orders,” Das said.
“In this particular case I would not be able to comment on anything. I merely carried out orders of the party higher-ups,” he said.
Sarkar’s exclusion follows chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent decision to crack the whip on party workers accused of taking cuts for executing various projects of the state government.
Sarkar could not be contacted. Repeated calls to her mobile phone didn’t go through.
