SN Bose Centre for Basic Sciences has announced the schedule for on-campus exams from January 17 to 28.

However, students who are unable to write the exams because of factors stemming from Covid will be allowed to appear in the exams later following a schedule deemed fit by the institute.

A section of students of the central academic institution in Salt Lake last week wrote to the state higher education department alleging that the institute was forcing them to write the semester examination offline from January 17 despite being informed the students were residing in a containment zone and tested positive.

The officials from the department contacted the authorities of the institute on Monday.

On Wednesday the students were told that if they were unable to come to the campus, they could write the exams later.

The schedule uploaded on the institute’s website says the examination of those in the first and second year of the integrated PHd programmes will be held from January 17 to 28 at the ground floor of Basundhara Building.

Shohini Majumder, the institute’s registrar, said: “Those who won’t be able to come to write the test from January 17, would be allowed to write later. The institute will hold the exams from Monday following the safety protocols”.

Integrated PhD, a residential programme, is a combination of MSC and PHd programme spanning over seven years.

Some of the students who went home for Christmas, were unable to move as the place of their residence has been brought under containment or family members have tested positive.

The state government has suspended all on-campus activities for now in its institutes.
