Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday alleged that the Narendra Modi government is snatching away reservation rights from teachers in central universities.
A Right to Information request reply has revealed that 27 per cent out of the sanctioned 18,940 teaching posts in 46 central universities is vacant, he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“Those who are snatching away the right of reservation of teachers in Central University are teaching lessons in public welfare to others,” he wrote.
He said that the RTI request reply has also revealed that more than 38 per cent of SC, ST, OBC reserved posts are lying vacant. He provided a breakup for it as well: SC posts 32.1 per cent vacant, ST — 40.3 per cent and OBC 41.8 per cent.
He claimed that over half – 55 per cent – of posts in the professor category are vacant and 71 per cent of EWS (economically weaker section) teaching posts are vacant.
In addition, he claimed, more than 47 per cent of the 35,640 non-teaching posts are also vacant.
“The Modi government's slogan ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ mocks the fight for social justice by snubbing it,” he wrote in the post in Hindi.
