The special investigation team (SIT) probing the death of Anish Khan in Howrah has urged the family members of the student activist to appear before a court in Uluberia on Wednesday.

The family members need to record their confessional statements before a magistrate under the provisions of Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the SIT has said.

Senior officers said recording statements of the family members was a crucial part of the investigation process and it would be of immense help to the investigators in unravelling the mystery leading to Anis’s death in the early hours of February 20 at Amta in Howrah. “We have appealed to seven members of the family including Anis’s father Salam Khan to appear before the magistrate for recording their statements,” said a senior SIT member.

Salam said he would consult the family lawyer before deciding to record his statements and that of the rest of the family members. “We want the CBI to probe my son’s death,” the father said on Thursday when some of the SIT members turned up at his house in Howrah.
