Siliguri: Suicide whiff as toy train runs over man

A middle-aged resident of Siliguri died on Monday morning after being mowed down by the Darjeeling-bound toy train at Dagapur.

Police suspect Bablu Mahato, 45, of Siliguri’s Bagha Jatin Colony, committed suicide.

Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested one Nemai Byadh with 6,000 pieces of Yaba tablets (addictive stimulants) worth Rs 18 lakh on Sunday.

Sources said Nemai, who is from Haldibari in Cooch Behar district, was arrested from Amaidighi area of New Jalpaiguri police station.

BSF Troops of the 15 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals on Sunday moving “suspiciously" along the India-Bangladesh border. Based on their information, four other Bangladeshis were caught while on their way to the New Jalpaiguri railway station. All six residents of villages in Thakurgaon district of Bangladesh were on their way to Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir for jobs but did not have the documents to enter India legally.

The BSF also carried out raids at the north Bengal frontier on Sunday and Monday and seized contraband items worth Rs 8.42 lakh, sources said.
