The board of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation has decided to seek consultancy from experts to draw up a master plan for the sewerage system of the city.
In Siliguri, absence of a comprehensive sewerage system leads to water-logging during the monsoon at localities like Hyderpara, Champasari, Ashoknagar, Milanpally, Ganganagar and East Vivekanandapally.
“We have decided to invite applications from experts for the preparation of a comprehensive master plan for the drainage system of the SMC area,” mayor Gautam Deb said here on Friday.
The plan would cover all 47 wards of the city, which are spread in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts.
Sources said the mayor had asked the conservancy department and councillors to prepare ward-wise reports on water-logging.
Instructions have also been given to clear the clogged drains ahead of the monsoon.
The SMC board also decided to build a foot over-bridge near the Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Terminus. A sum of Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned for the project.
