One person was killed and six others suffered injuries after an SUV rammed into a bus near Bagdogra, on the outskirts of Siliguri, on Thursday.
Police sources said the SUV was on its way to Siliguri. While moving along Asian Highway 2 at Gossainpur, it hit the bus from behind.
Indrashis Chakraborty 25, a resident of Dakshineswar, who was driving the SUV, died on the spot. Six others in the vehicle were injured and were provided with treatment at a local hospital.
In another accident, Mozammel Haque, 45, a resident of the Boragari area in Dhupguri block of Jalpaiguri district, was run over by a truck on Thursday afternoon. He was walking along NH27 along the Salbari-Dhupguri route.
Police are in search of the killer truck.
Drowning
An unidentified man drowned in the Sagardighi, the largest pond in Cooch Behar town, on Thursday. Although the administration banned bathing and washing of clothes in the pond, the person got into the water from the northern bank and drowned. Later, his body was found floating in the pond.
