Bengali feature film Bijayar Pare (After Bijoya Dashami), produced and directed by two Siliguri residents, will be screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) and the Dhaka International Film Festival.

Bijayar Pare is perhaps the first mainstream full-length feature film that has been directed and produced by Siliguri residents and chosen for screening at two back-to-back international movie festivals.

“Our film has been selected for the Bengali Panorama section of the KIFF, which will be held in December in Calcutta. The festival in Dhaka will be in January. The film and its recognition, we believe, is an achievement and a New Year gift for the movie buffs of Siliguri and north Bengal as a whole,” said Sujit Raha, who produced the movie.

The cast of the film includes prominent Tollywood faces like Mamata Shankar, Dipankar De, Swastika Mukherjee, Mir Afsar Ali and Bidipta Chakraborty. The movie’s title suggests the story is set in the backdrop of Durga Puja. The film was shot in different locations of Calcutta and some adjacent areas in south Bengal.

Abhijit SriDas, the young director of the film, though gained huge popularity among the younger generation of the region through his talk show on a local FM channel, had never directed any film earlier.
