Shankar Ghosh, the BJP MLA of Siliguri and the party’s chief whip in the Bengal Assembly, will sit in a demonstration in the Assembly next week in protest against the alleged constraints on the part of the administration in utilizing his local area development fund and some other issues.

“Over the past three years, I have been facing inconveniences in utilizing the funds that I receive as an MLA for the development of my Assembly constituency. A section of the administration and officials associated with the state-run development agencies are in complete non-cooperation mode at the instruction of TMC leaders,” Ghosh said at a news conference here on Saturday.

“Most other MLAs of BJP are facing the same problem. I have decided to sit in a demonstration in the Assembly to draw the attention of the Speaker and the state
government. Such a biased attitude is disappointing,” he added.

The MLA pointed out that even though the state has initiated a drive to clear encroachment from government land, no step has been taken against some TMC councillors of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) who had encroached on such land in Rajganj block of Jalpaiguri.

Earlier this month, as the Jalpaiguri district administration launched the drive, it was found that some TMC councilors have encroached on government land and have built resorts and other structures on such land.
