The Sikkim government has made arrangements for the Monday swearing-in of the chief minister and his council of ministers in capital Gangtok, administrative sources said on Saturday.
On Monday, P.S. Tamang will take oath as Sikkim's chief minister for the second time. His party, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), has won 31 of 32 Assembly seats.
“Because of the swearing-in at Paljor Stadium on Monday, there will be traffic curbs. That is why the state education department has announced that all government and private schools and colleges and other academic institutions within the Gangtok municipal corporation area will be closed on Monday,” said a source.
Elected lawmakers and hundreds of SKM supporters and residents are expected to reach the stadium.
“Heavy vehicles will not be allowed along the Singtam-Ranipool-Gangtok stretch of NH10 from midnight to 8pm on June 10. No vehicle will be allowed between Traffic Point-Hospital Dara and the district administrative centre in Sichey from noon to 7pm on the same day,” the source said, adding that parking areas had been marked.
