Sheikh Shahjahan, the suspended Trinamool strongman, made ₹261 crore from grabbing around 180 bighas of land in and around Sandeshkhali, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said in its chargesheet on Monday.

The 113-page chargesheet mentions three others, Shahjahan's brother Sheikh Alamgir and his aides Didar Baksh Mollah and Shib Prasad Hazra, who are co-accused in land-grabbing and extortion.

The chargesheet also mentions arms recovered from Sandeshkhali following a CBI raid.

"The chargesheet comes within 56 days of ED taking over the investigation into the case. The process of conducting a probe into the allegations of land grabbing and extortion is still on," said a senior ED official. "Out of ₹261 crore that we have estimated as the proceeds of crime, the ED has been successful in seizing ₹27 crore."

While Shahjahan is under judicial custody after the ED arrested him in March, his brother Alamgir remains a prime accused in the alleged attack on an ED team at Sandeshkhali on January 5. The CBI arrested him in this case.

The state police arrested Shib Prasad in February, along with his associate Uttam Sardar, following a complaint of alleged rape of a woman in Sandeshkali.

Earlier in March, the ED seized 14 properties of Shahjahan worth ₹12.78 crore from parts of Sandeshkhali, Sarberia and Calcutta.

"These properties comprise stretches of agricultural land and bheris or water bodies meant for pisciculture," the official said.

Shahjahan has been under the ED's scrutiny ever since his involvement surfaced in the alleged multi-crore irregularities in the public distribution scam in Bengal.

"The seized properties are proceeds of crime. We are trying to join the dots of how Shahjahan went about making money illegally and parking it in different assets," the official said.
