Trinamul Congress MP from Asansol and veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha will be seen on stage portraying the lead role in the popular Hindi comedy “Pati Patni Aur Main” in Asansol and Durgapur on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

This will be Shatrughan’s first-of-its-kind apolitical and cultural event in the region since his victory in Asansol Lok Sabha bypoll in April this year.

The two-hour-long play directed by Ramesh Talwar will also feature actors Rakesh Bedi, Dimple Danda and Sanjay Goradia.

Sinha said that people of his constituency, as well those in neighbouring Durgapur, had requested him for a special show of the popular play, and his friend Mahender Sharma helped his team to stage the play.

“This play has been successfully staged in various parts of the country and abroad in the past few years and gained immense popularity. It had been highly praised by eminent political personalities such as Atal Behari Vajpayee, Manmohan Singh, Lal Krishna Advani, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Nitish Kumar and Arvind Kejriwal, besides my friend Amitabh Bachchan. I am very happy to be able to perform here,” Sinha said at a news meet in Asansol on Thursday.

However, tickets for the show are not on sale. “It is by invitation only,” said an organiser of the play to be staged at Asansol’s Rabindra Bhavan.

In Durgapur, the venue will be staged at the civic body-run Srijani Auditorium.

“We want people here to see the great actor performing in front of their eyes. We know we can’t accommodate a large number of people in only two shows. We plan to organise more such shows of the play for a larger audience in the near future,” said Asansol deputy mayor Abhijit Ghatak.
