Asansol Lok Sabha member Shatrughan Sinha arrived in his constituency on Saturday, a day after posters had appeared at Kulti in West Burdwan describing the Trinamul Congress MP as “missing during Chhath Puja”.

Sinha reached Kazi Nazrul Islam airport at Andal in Wet Burdwan and went to Pandaveswar, which is part of his constituency, to visit several ghats where devotees would perform Chhath Puja on Sunday.

However, the actor-turned politician claimed his visit was pre-scheduled and it had nothing to do with posters.

“I visit my constituency every month and spend at least a week. I came here during the Durga Puja carnival in Durgapur also and stayed for 15 days,” he told media persons at the airport.

Asked about the posters that described him as “missing”, Sinha said his party had already reacted to it and he did not want to repeat it. “The people here know the truth and I don’t need to react to such foolish issues,” he said.

On Friday, several printed posters sporting Sinha’s picture and written in Hindi had appeared at Kulti, which is a part of the Asansol Lok Sabha seat. The posters said the “Bihari Babu” was “missing from his constituency during Chhath Puja, which is the biggest festival of the Biharis”.

The Asansol Lok Sabha segment has nearly 45 per cent Hindi-speaking people, mostly from Bihar. The posters were put up by the “Asansol ke Bihari Jaanta (Biharis of Asansol)”.

Sinha on Saturday said he would be visiting several places in Asansol during Chhath Puja on Sunday.

BJP state president Sukanta Majumder said it was good that he (Sinha) finally came to his constituency after local people had put up posters describing him as “missing”. “Whenever people want him to see him in the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency, they will have to put up such posters. It is good to see that he finally arrived,” Majumder said.
