Scuffle between Congress and TMC supporters leave eight people injured in Malda

Supporters of the Trinamul Congress and the Congress clashed in Bhado under the jurisdiction of Ratua police station in Malda district on Thursday morning, hurling bombs and firing bullets at each other.

At least eight persons were injured in the clash. They are under treatment at Malda Medical College & Hospital (MMCH).

Sources said the Congress had secured a majority at the Bhado panchayat in the elections last year.

When the Congress had taken out a procession to celebrate the victory, a group of suspected TMC supporters attacked them. Safikul Islam, a Congress supporter, lost his life.

Both sides had filed police complaints and some people were arrested. Recently, those arrested were released on bail. As they reached the village, fresh tension cropped up in the area.

Six Trinamool and two Congress supporters sustained injuries. They were initially rushed to the local rural hospital and later referred to MMCH. A large contingent of police reached and brought the situation under control.
