Three drug peddlers — two from Manipur and one from Bihar — were arrested at the Ajoynagar crossing on the EM Bypass early on Tuesday with 1.8 lakh Yaba tablets, a psychotropic drug, hidden inside a car.
A special task force team stopped the car acting on a tip-off and found the drugs hidden in the body panel of the front and rear doors and boot and the flaps of dashboards. The drugs are valued at Rs 3.5 crore, police said.
The accused — Mohammad Amir Khan, 30, and Mohammad Najir Hussain, 32, (both from Manipur) and Jagesar Mahato, 35, from Bihar — had come to the city to sell the drugs to multiple recipients, STF sources said.
“Amphetamines, known as Yaba drugs, weighing about 13.534kg, were seized from the car. The tablets were found in the body panel of the doors, dashboard and the boot,” an STF officer said.
A case has been drawn up under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The trio were produced in a city court on Tuesday and remanded in police custody till February 25.
