Police in South Dinajpur have seized around 9,000 bottles of cough syrup from a pick-up van that bore an “on duty medical supply” sticker. Two persons have been arrested in this connection.
Sources said a team from Gangarampur police station intercepted a pick-up van which was on its way to Balurghat from Malda on Thursday evening. As they searched the vehicle, cartons of cough syrup was found. The vehicle van bore an “on duty medical supply” sticker to evade checking, police sources said.
“We suspect the cough syrups were supposed to be smuggled to Bangladesh. Two persons have been arrested from the vehicle. Our officers are probing the case,” said Rahul Dey, SP, South Dinajpur.
The cost of the seized consignment is around Rs 18 lakh, the sources said.
Those arrested have been identified as Raja Hawari, a resident of Bihar, and Sanjib Ghosh, from Nayabazar of Gangarampur.
