Police seized 130 kilos of cannabis from a truck in Pakriguri on NH27 at the Bengal-Assam border on Thursday and arrested two persons, both residents of Bihar, in this connection.
The police said they intercepted the truck, that was heading towards Bengal from Assam, and found 12 packets of the narcotics — each packet weighing 10 to 11 kilos –— concealed under tarpaulin.
The estimated price of the seized cannabis is around Rs 10,40,000.
“We suspect that the duo were smuggling the narcotics to Bihar. Those arrested have been identified as Dilip Kumar and Lawkush Kumar. The truck has also been seized,” said a police officer.
In a separate raid, the police have seized brown sugar, a derivative of heroin, from Birpara. They have seized an SUV and have arrested two persons.
Also, Darjeeling police seized 18 kilos of cannabis from a private bus on Wednesday that was heading towards Calcutta from Siliguri.
Two women, who were carrying the narcotics, have been arrested in this connection.
The estimated price of the seized cannabis is around Rs 1,44,000.
In another incident, a team from Rajganj police station in Jalpaiguri district conducted a raid on Wednesday and arrested Sudoy Roy, a resident of Chaulhati near Jalpaiguri.
A firearm and one round of live cartridge were seized from him.
