The hurling of bombs in Narendrapur on Friday could be possibly aimed at sending a message to some members of a local club in Katipota to stay away from organising Jagaddhatri Puja, senior police officers said on Saturday.

The revelation came following the arrest of three more youths on Saturday for allegedly hurling bombs and injuring five children aged between 12 and 13 years. The police arrested four persons on Friday. “We are verifying the allegations by questioning the accused,” said a police officer.

The five teens had apparently spotted a few men trying to break open a single-storied building on Friday and raised the alarm. The men had hurled bombs in response.

The children were treated and discharged from hospital on Friday. The police said they have recovered five bombs and seized two motorcycles. The accused were bike-borne, officers said.

Officers probing the case said they were not sure why the accused youths had turned up at the spot on Friday morning.

It was still unclear whether the gang had hatched some other plan or they had come to the spot in Nardenrapur’s Atghora area to pick up the crude bombs.
