The post-mortem report of the young doctor raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital says her internal and external genitalia together weighed “151 grams”, sources who have seen the document told this newspaper on Monday.

Within the genitalia was a “white thick viscid liquid” that has now been sent for tests, they said.

The tests will determine the number of DNA strains present apart from her own.

Usually, such a test takes several weeks, forensic experts not associated with the investigation said.

According to the sources, the report says that “death was due to effects of manual strangulation associated with smothering”.

“Manner of death — homicidal. There is medical evidence of forceful penetration/ insertion in her genitalia — possibility of sexual assault,” the report says, according to the sources.

The report, the sources said, lists 16 external wounds and nine internal injuries that emerged when the body was dissected. The report says there were no fractures and no injuries to the muscles, bones or joints, the sources added.

The 31-year-old postgraduate trainee was found dead at the hospital on August 9 morning. Samples from her body were collected before the post-mortem was conducted later inthe day.

“Around 185 grams of partly digested food residue was found in the stomach. It (the report) also mentions that there was no ‘peculiar smell’,” said a source who had seen the report.

A senior forensic doctor who is not connected to the case said the presence of a “peculiar smell” could indicate the presence of alcohol or any toxicant. “No peculiar smell would mean no apparent sign of the presence of a toxicant,” the forensic doctor said.

The report, sources said, also mentions the weights of some of the organs like the liver, spleen, kidneys, heart, and the right and left lungs apart from the genitalia.

The forensic tests on the “white thick viscid liquid” collected from inside her genitalia “are expected to come up with the number of DNAs present”, the senior forensic doctor said.

“Apart from the person’s own DNA, if the presence of a second or more DNAs is established, then those have to be matched separately with the DNAs of the suspects,” the doctor said.

Another doctor unconnected to the probe said that in case of asphyxial death, a certain amount of body fluid is discharged from the body’s openings. “It could be through the nostrils, the corners of the eye or other openings, including the genital openings. In case of sexual assault, this fluid in the genitals could be contaminated with the body fluids of the attacker,” he said.

The report, sources said, mentions multiple bruises on her body, including the nose, lips, neck, arms, shoulder and knees, a torn hymen with blood oozing out, and “hemorrhagic spots on the inner side of her epiglottis”. The epiglottis is a lid of cartilage that prevents food and water from entering the windpipe and lungs when a person swallows.

The sources said the report mentions that “routine viscera, PM blood, few plucked scalp hair, nail cuttings and scrapings from both hands, wet vulvar mop, pubic combings” were collected, preserved, sealed and packed before being handed over tothe police.

The post-mortem was conducted in the presence of a judicial magistrate and doctors and videographed. The video has been handed over to the CBI, officers of Kolkata Police said. The report, the sources said, mentions the name of the person who videographed the procedure.
