In the letter sent to the district police chief, NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo sought information like the girl’s age proof, the complaint filed by her family and the post-mortem report.

Clarifications were also sought about the girl’s body “being carried in an undignified and disrespectable manner as seen on a viral video.” The commission intends to know the action taken report and whether samples were collected from the spot for forensic examinations, said a source.

Pradeep Kumar Yadav, the district police chief, said all necessary steps have been taken up by the police.

“The person, who has been arrested, has admitted his involvement in the murder. He was produced in court yesterday and is in police custody for seven days as we need to interrogate him further,” he said.
