The registrar of Raiganj University has filed a police complaint, alleging that his signature and official seal have been forged to make a fake appointment letter for recruitment to a post at the varsity.
Durlabh Sarkar, the registrar, said: “I have learned that an appointment letter has been issued to a person for a Group C post in the university on September 27. In the letter, my signature and official seal have been used. I have never issued any such letter and suspect both the signature and the seal were forged. The police should find out the truth.”
The appointment letter was issued to a resident of the Bogram area of Karnajora on the outskirts of Raiganj town.
The letter says the person to whom it has been addressed should take over the post by October 15.
No one has reached the varsity with the letter so far.
“A similar incident had happened here earlier when the signature of a former vice-chancellor was forged. Such illegal practices have to stop,” Sarkar said.
