Sources said she was walking near the police station when a youth called her. “He showed me another person standing by the side of the road and told me that I should meet him. As I went there, the person showed me an identity card and introduced himself as a police personnel. He then asked me why I was wearing gold ornaments and that I should be aware of fraudsters,” said Gupta.

The person then told her that she should put the ornaments in a bag or else, a fine of 2,000 would be imposed on her.

“He stopped another pedestrian who was wearing a gold chain and alerted him as well. The other man took off his chain and handed it over to the person who packed it in a piece of paper and returned it,” she said.

Gupta took off her ornaments and put them in her handbag. Suddenly, one of them snatched away the bag while the others fled on a bike.

She raised an alert and locals reached the spot. She then filed a complaint with the police.

Police are probing the case. No arrests have been made so far.
