Rain and the India-England World Cup tie notwithstanding, visitors thronged City Centre II, New Town, to scout for homes at a realty fair.

With more than 1,100 enquiries in three days, the Merlin Group presents The Telegraph Real Estate Fair 2019 ended on a high note on Sunday.

The fair was scheduled to close at 8pm, but visitors kept streaming in even at 8.30pm, an organiser said.

Ten builders and one property management and marketing company participated in the three-day fair.

Most of the projects showcased at the fair are in New Town, north Calcutta and northern suburbs such as Madhyamgram, Barrackpore and Sodepur. Ninety per cent of the apartments were priced within Rs 1 crore.

One of the builders said apartments priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 2 crore were also showcased.

Businessman Suchit Behal and wife Neeru Behal visited several stalls, asked many questions and picked up some brochures. The couple had come house-hunting with their daughters.

“We want a 2-3 BHK flat in north Calcutta. There are some good projects being showcased here. I also wanted to check if there was any special offer in the fair,” Suchit said.

Railways employee Tapas Majumdar and wife Basabi Bhattacharya of Garden Reach were looking for a 3BHK flat in New Town. “The benefit of coming to a fair is that I can talk to the representatives and clear any confusion. I picked up the brochures of some projects and will compare them at home before taking a decision,” Basabi said. “I don’t want a standalone apartment. I want to buy a flat in a gated community.”

An organiser said there were 200 enquiries on Friday, 310 on Saturday and 650 on Sunday. There were a few spot bookings as well.

Actor Raima Sen dropped in at the fair to hand over mementos to the participants.

Sanjeev Roy, an official of real estate company Sanhita, said he was happy with the turnout. “Over the three days, we received 100 enquiries. There were 10 sites and one person has already booked a flat. In the real estate industry the usual ratio for actual booking is 1:10,” he said. “We have maintained that 1:10 ratio in this fair and I am happy about that.”

Magnolia Infrastructure Development Ltd, another participating company, also had a customer who booked a flat at the fair.

An official of Pioneer Property Management Ltd, a company that markets real estate projects, said they arranged five site visits on Sunday morning. “Most of the enquiries were in the bracket of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 75 lakh. The good thing is that the majority of visitors were genuine clients who are actually looking for properties,” said Amit Sethia, an official of Pioneer.
