The Prime Minister, Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP president J.P. Nadda will address one rally each in Bengal in June as a part of elaborate celebrations to mark the completion of Narendra Modi's nine years in power at the Centre, Sukanta Majumdar, the state chief of the party, said on Wednesday.

"We have proposed one public meeting each in north, central and south Bengal. Honourable Prime Minister, the Union home minister and our party chief will address these rallies," Majumdar told a news conference at the BJP office in Salt Lake.

Modi is likely to address a rally in Calcutta, while Shah might visit north Bengal for the meeting, sources said.

The Balurghat MP said those rallies would be part of 51 meetings the BJP planned across the country to celebrate Modi's nine years in office and the three leaders were likely to visit other states as well.

However, these meetings assume more significance in the case of Bengal because panchayat polls are likely to be announced in the state soon. The BJP believes a series of events it has planned, along with the presence of the top three leaders, will help the party perform well in the coming rural and Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP has drawn up a plan to organise 1,000 meetings across the state to highlight the achievements of the Modi government. These meetings will be held at the mandal-level of the party. A mandal is an organisational unit of the BJP which comprise several booths.

Majumdar said while the primary aim of those meetings would be to spread the word in favour of the Modi government, the alleged corruption in the Trinamul Congress dispensation in the state would also be highlighted.

"These 1,000 meetings are planned particularly for our state. This is not a national programme. One of the reasons we are doing this is the ensuing rural polls," Majumdar said, adding that his party intended to organise one mandal-level meeting in each of 294 Assembly segments by June-end.

The BJP has over 1,300 mandals in the state.

"These meetings will be addressed by state leaders, including leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and national vice-president Dilip Ghosh," Majumdar said.
