Sources said in Kaliachak 2 block of the Malda district, two women reached the ongoing Duare Sarkar camp on Hamidpur islet to get themselves enrolled for the old age pension.

The employees posted at the camp sought documents from the duo and they handed over their Aadhaar documents and EPICs.

“While verifying the IDs, the employees got suspicious as the ages mentioned in their documents appeared to be overwritten. As they started questioning the women, the duo admitted that they had obtained those from a computer centre by paying Rs 500,” said a source.

Officials of the block administration raided the computer centre and nabbed owner Bikram Mandal. He was handed over to Mothabari police. The police also detained two others to gather information about the racket that was involved in issuing fake IDs to people.

“We have information that some computer centres are issuing such forged documents. We are conducting a probe and stern actions will be taken against such centres,” said an official of the district administration.

Bipratim Basak, the BDO of Kaliachak – II, said they have put the employees at the camps on alert.

“We will ensure that no one manages to get benefits of government schemes by resorting to illegal means,” said Basak.
