Police in North Dinajpur district arrested the main accused of a murder case on Sunday night from near the India-Bangladesh border of the district.
Sumit Nag, a resident of Madhupur in Raiganj, was arrested in connection with the murder of 50-year-old Dinesh Saha on December 13, 2023.
Saha, who was an employee of West Bengal State Seed Corporation Limited, had been gunned down near his house in Tulsitala of Raiganj town in North Dinajpur.
After the murder, the police arrested two persons.
Their interrogation revealed Nag's name and the angle of a financial dispute as the reason for the murder.
Since then, the police had been in search of Nag.
Police officers said Nag was nabbed from Bhatol, a locality near the international border.
A firearm, which was suspected to be used in the crime, was also seized from him with some live ammunition.
“Nag was planning to escape to Bangladesh to evade arrest,” said a police officer.
On Monday, the accused was produced at a local court here.
The court heard the case and sent him in police custody for six days.
