Silence ruled the Mekhliganj home of Paresh Adhikary, the minister of state for education, on Saturday, a day after a team of the Enforcement Directorate carried out a nine-hour raid here.

Paresh, who was in Calcutta during the raid, came home on Saturday afternoon, but stayed indoors and didn’t even visit the local Trinamul office.

Some Trinamul insiders admitted they were maintaining a distance from Paresh, whose daughter Ankita lost her teacher’s job at Indira Girls’ High School in Mekhliganj recently after Calcutta High Court ordered a probe and an anomaly was found in her recruitment.

“Our party has not made any move against Paresh Adhikary, but we feel it is better to maintain a distance as after (minister) Partha Chatterjee’s arrest, we don’t know what will happen next,” said a Trinamul insider.

“Usually, there is a flurry of activities when the minister is at home. This time, no local Trinamul leader was seen in the vicinity,” a neighbour said.

On Friday, the ED team stayed at Paresh’s house from 7am to 4pm., spoke with wife Meera and daughter Ankita and seized some documents.
