Around 5,000 para teachers of state-aided schools who were on an indefinite sit-in lifted the protest on Thursday.

They had been on sit-in since November 11 on footpaths off Bikash Bhavan demanding that they be paid according to the pay scale of full-time teachers.

Education minister Partha Chatterjee had met the protesters on Wednesday and assured them their demands will be looked into.
