Padma Shri awardee and weaver Biren Basak displayed a handwoven “line- art” portrait of President Droupadi Murmu at his workshop in Nadia district’s Phulia on Tuesday.
The decorative wall hanging was painstakingly woven on a piece of jamdani fabric by Basak and his three assistants — Bibek Biswas, Tokon Biswas and Sidhdiq Khan — in just 20 days.
The “portrait”, which is basically woven with threads on the jamdani fabric, is remarkable for accurately depicting the features and the smiling expression of the newly elected President of India.
The team took inspiration from a graphical image of Murmu.
The piece of fabric is expected to be handed over to President Murmu as a congratulatory gesture to her on August 7 at a programme in New Delhi, the acclaimed craftsman said.
