Two Covid-19 patients, one each from Darjeeling and Malda districts, have died in the past 24 hours.

As of now, there are 15,721 active patients in the region.

“Among the total patients, half are in Malda and Darjeeling districts. Also, the number of cases in both South and North Dinajpurs has crossed 2,000 mark. The surge has been comparatively less but we should all be on alert,” said an official of the state health department.

In Malda, the number of cases have crossed 4,000 mark, while it is close to 3,500 in Darjeeling district.

Altogether, 1,798 patients have been tested negative in the past 24 hours.

“The concern remains as on a regular basis, doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health staff, both in government and private health establishments, are getting infected with the contagion on a regular basis. We cannot afford to be lackadaisical,” the health official added.

The rise in cases has also led to restrictions in the neighbouring country of Bhutan.
