Visva-Bharati has issued an order to close the Kala Bhavana campus gate after dusk to prevent entry of outsiders who are allegedly using the place for untoward activities.
Sources said the outsiders, along with some students, indulge in drinking near the Kalo Bari (black house) on the Kala Bhavana campus. Also, there have been complaints of the youths disturbing girl students on the campus.
Kalo Bari was set up under the supervision of the first Kala Bhavana principal Nandalal Bose in the early 1920s.
“… henceforth Kala Bhavana gate near Amtala Boys’ Hostel and Sangeet Bhavan will remain closed from 6pm to 6am for security reason, prevention of untoward activities and maintaining a healthy academic atmosphere on the campus,” an order issued by officiating registrar Asha Mukherjee reads.
Black house also houses a boys’ hostel where six students reside. They have been asked to shift to another hostel.
Officiating public relations officer Anirban Sircar, however, declined comment.
