The Prime Minister’s Office may soon face a daunting task — making space for 1 crore letters.

The BJP is in the process of cobbling up a team of 3 lakh party workers to inform people about the “potential gains” from and “benefits” of the CAA and to counter “the misinformation campaign of the Trinamul Congress”.

“We are organising training programmes across the 38 organisational districts of the state to prepare them for the doorstep outreach drive,” said Sayantan Basu, one of the general secretaries of the BJP.

“We will try to get 1 crore thanksgiving letters for Narendra Modiji for passing the CAB in Parliament,” a BJP source said.

The reachout, BJP sources said, had become imperative as the first round of the CAA battle appears to have been won by Mamata Banerjee, who has made it a major political issue and tied the amended law to the NRC and the NPR.

Congress MLA Abdul Mannan, has written to Mamata to call an all-party meeting, barring the BJP, on the CAA. CPM legislator Sujan Chakraborty has questioned why the chief minister was not initiating a process in the Assembly to adopt a resolution against the CAA, like in Kerala.
